Expressive masks
From May 12-17, 2014
Led by
Alredo IRIARTE
(Grupo Catalinas Sur / Argentina)
It’s a “mask approach” by reading his facial lines, his tensions, the movements that he creates and his contradictions. During this workshop we will progressively discover how the mask becomes a type of geographical map suggesting a specific walk, specific gesture grammar and its own poetry. It’s about discovering the expressive mask dynamics both in an individual and collective way. This method gives each participant the opportunity to realize an expressive mask. Then, we will discover how the expressive mask serves the work of the actors in the construction of a character.
From May 12-17, 2014 (42h).

Materials and objects as the actor’s partners
Du 07 au 18 avril 2014
Led by
Pierrik MALEBRANCHE
(France)
The objective this workshop is to experiment with a new approach to common materials and everyday objects, in order to utilize them as actor’s partners and to serve a theatrical and/or a poetic purpose. We will begin with work based on actor’s/object’s presence in order to improve the partcpants’ listening skills and concentration. Then, a (re)discovery of objects and materials will help us to use them in different and more sensitive ways. We must take into consideration an object’s weight, its dynamic and texture. In so doing, we unleash the particpants’ imagination and feelings in order to generate new associations with the object. Then, exercises or improvisations will help us to involve this new sensory, physical and emotive link with the object. Throughout the workshop, we will gain some manipulation skills. They are necessary to allow a clearer articulation of your vision. At least, all this specific work will help us to think about the art of stage writing.
From April 07–18, 2014 (60 h).

From novels to theatre
From April 28 to May 09, 2014
Led by
Juliet O’BRIEN
(France).
[thb_two_thirds]Working with a selection of short stories by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, this course explores the following themes: how to adapt a short story for the theatre; how to create a character from a literary form and bring it to life in the theatrical space; how the chorus can be used to transform space, to personify the protagonist’s inner thoughts, to portray the secondary characters and to create the atmosphere and imagery which define this dreamlike world.
Marquez’ universe is one of mystery, poetry, drama and humor. It is a world full of color and fantasy, a world in which the characters find themselves trapped in inextricable situations with often nightmarish outcomes. The poetic nature of the work creates a certain ambiguity in which we often no longer know whether we are witness to reality or fantasy. Such a world is therefore rich in theatricality. Lastly, the workshop seeks to stimulate the imagination and enhance both the interpretive and creative skills of the actors culminating in a collective piece of work.
From April 28 to May 09, 2014 (60h).

Musical and vocal training for actors
From March 24 to April 04, 2014
Led by
Linda WISE
(France)
[thb_two_thirds]Before becoming a controlled musical instrument or the modulated support of language, the voice is a fabulous means of expression, linked to our innermost impulses. Each sound, from the most ethereal sigh to a wrenching scream, from the highest coloratura to the lowest of growls, must claim its place in our artistic imagination.
1) FOUNDATIONS: The workshop begins by using different forms of physical preparation, engaging each individual’s voice both technically and imaginatively. Group and individual explorations of breathing, movement and body alignment allow access to the vocal spaces, registers and textures of each participant. Time is given to delve into lesser-known, “un-natural” areas of the voice and to explore the relationships between sound, singing, text and emotion.
2) IMPROVISATION and INTERPRETATION: The transition from exploration to creation is subtle, but through improvisation and interpretation of text and sound, each participant will be encouraged to create, compose and perform. Please come with a text or song learned by heart.
From March 24 to April 04, 2014 (60h).

Neutral mask
From March 17-21, 2014
Led by
MARCELO SAVIGNONE
(Argentina)
[thb_two_thirds]The neutral mask is a pedagogical tool; it puts the actor in a state of awareness and intensifies his presence in the surrounding space. The actor’s face disappears under the neutral mask, thus allowing the whole body to be observed and expressed intensely. The work of movement operates from the neutral, the balance and the peace, allowing the actor to measure the full extent of its expressive potential. The neutral mask exposes physical idiosyncrasies helping to strip the body of presonceived forms.
From March 17-21, 2014 (20h).
